Civitavecchia Port celebrates the Navy Day 2024

Navy Day commemorates the anniversary of the Premuda Action of June 10, 1918, an important World War I operation. During that action, Anti Submarine Motorboats 15 and 21, led by Lieutenant Commander Luigi Rizzo, sank the enemy battleship Szent Istvan, preventing a raid against the Allied blockade in the Otranto Canal.

What will happen during the ceremony?

During the ceremony, the ships Paolo Thaon of Revel and Francesco Morosini will receive the battle flag. The Vulcan ship will be awarded the Gold Medal of Merit for its outstanding health care service as a hospital ship under Operation Levant, in favour of Gaza Strip patients.

The Marine Village

In Piazza della Vita, a Marine Village will be set up, where the public can use simulators of helicopter, hurricane dinghy and submarine. There will also be stands of the Command Divers and Raiders, the Brigade Marina San Marco, the Hydrographic Institute of the Navy and the Italian Naval League with a sailing boat simulator.

For the occasion, the Navy will open to the public some ships and installations throughout the national territory. The full list is available at the following link: Navy Day 2024.
