The Windstar Cruises is an American cruise company, particularly known for having a fleet of modern sailing ships controlled by computer.
The company was founded in 1984 as Windstar Sail Cruises and the first ship was launched in 1986. In 1987, Holland America Line acquires 50%, and later became part of the Carnival group. In 1998 Windstar Cruises bought the sailing ship Club Med from The Club Med Cruises.
In February 2007 it was sold by the Carnival to Ambassadors International for $ 100 million.
Windstar cruises in winter months traveling between the Caribbean and the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, while in summer cruises in the Mediterranean, including the port of Civitavecchia.
